21 years, and you still inspire people, make them laugh, and make them cry, a lot. Thank you for every wonderful episode, every scully and mulder touch, thank you for showing us that the truth is out there.

21 years ago, the show that would eventually come to change my life aired it’s first episode.

The X-Files has changed my life in ways I can’t even quantify. I have friends I never would have met, I’ve traveled in ways I never would have traveled, I’ve spent more money than I care to admit on memorabilia, I’ve adorned the shelves and walls of my home to pay tribute, I have ink permanently embedded in my skin in designs I otherwise wouldn’t have picked. And the time… the countless hours of watching that I would never trade for anything else in the world.

Scully taught me that you can be strong and smart and tough but also kind and caring and vulnerable. She taught me that even the best laid plans in life often don’t work out how you intended, but your new path could be the one you were actually meant for all along.

Mulder taught me that it’s ok to be naive and genuine. He also taught me to never give up on your quest.

And together they taught me the value of having a partner by your side, and the lengths you go to in order to save or be with someone you love.

Happy 21st anniversary X-Files! There is nothing else out there like you, and there never will be.

Here’s to your fandom searching for the truth, wanting to believe, trusting no one, and above all “Never Giving Up” for another 21 years.
